Employee Spotlight – Juan Cervantes

We recently sat down with Juan Cervantes, one of the foremen we depend on most. Juan oversees more than 15 crews for our Northern Utah branch. He is a proven leader that delivers top-notch work. He’s also trusted and respected by both workers and the other leaders in the company.

Here are some of the things we talked about with Juan:

What are some of the reasons that you love working at Unique Custom Exteriors?

Safety

Unique takes the safety of workers very seriously. We have a high standard when it comes to safety. We want to make sure every worker can go back home to their family at the end of the day.

There are a lot of ways we take care of our people. We have one of the best scaffold crews in the state, and they do things right which protects everyone on and around the scaffolding.

Unique doesn’t cut corners when it comes to personal protective equipment (PPE). We provide all the PPE you need and we make sure it’s in good condition. For workers at the mixer, we make sure everyone uses masks so they don’t breathe in the dust. Every position and every team has the PPE they need.

Opportunity

Unique lets you learn and grow with the company. You won’t come in here and get stuck in one position forever. Whatever kind of work you are interested in that we do, we can show you how to do it. We want our employees to feel like they can build a career here and keep moving forward.

Appreciation

One of the most important things we do here is show appreciation for our workers. I want my people to know that I appreciate them. It’s part of the culture of our company.

How do you inspire your crews?

I believe that the best way to inspire people is to work alongside them and lead by example. I get in there and show them how I like things to be done. Scaffolding, finishing, and everything in between. My people see me stepping in and working with them. They know I can do what they are doing and that I’m not afraid to work.

What’s the reason you get out of bed in the morning?

My family. Without Unique I couldn’t afford to feed my family. And I love inspiring my crews to succeed and grow in their careers. I like growing with Unique, bringing people in, and making a name for the company all across Utah.

I’m like everyone else. Somedays I want to throw in the towel. But I can’t do that because I have to make sure everyone gets paid.
